1. To start could you tell us a few words about yourself?
A few words about myself: My name is Ellen and I live in the Netherlands. At the moment photography is very important to me, allthough I use to draw and paint almost all of my live. Since I was 10,I had my first camera, but started to do much more in photography was, when I had my first DSLR (canon). That was about 6 years ago. I must admit,I am more creative than technical. I love to photograph animals, people and macro-subjects.

2. Are you are a self taught photographer? If so, did you encounter specific difficulties when you started? If not, could you tell us more about your training?
I am a self-taught photographer. There were some difficulties when i started, but I have read a lot about the subject and found most of the time a solution.

3. Could you describe your work to our audience ? What’s the typical process ?
My photo’s are mostly of my animals, in this case: dumbo-rats. I use food to get their attention and sometimes a few other tricks. But what you see is real, I never placed (by example) a music-instrument in their paws by using photoshop. I do sometimes help them with my left hand, and then clone it away with photoshop. It takes a bit of patience and a lot of time to get the right photo.

4. Which words could describe your personality the best?
My personality: I do have some humor and fantasy
which you need to find all the time new ideas. I am serious but also funny. (I think)

5. During a session what make a photo … the right one?
About the right photo: The light has to be perfect (almost) and it has to be sharp . Also the moment when the photo is taken is very important, because animals move all the time.

6. Would you consider that Internet is now a real opportunity for you to promote your art? Are you planning to sell your photographs directly online?
Internet is indeed very important to promote my art. I had already some good opportunities through it. I am already selling some of my art through RedBubble.

7. Who are your influences? Are other kind of arts (literature / cinema … ) sources of inspirations for you ?
About influences: The kind of subject I photographed was not really influenced.Allthough I knew some very good photographers that have influenced me in getting better and better in general.
(I am still not where i want to be

8. Are you the only judge of your own work before release?
Yes, I am the only judge before I release anything. My father was an artist and I often asked his opinion, but he passed away last year 2009. He was also a great influence on my art.

9. Is photography your escape from your mind…or a way to express your emotions?. Is your art feeding your mind?
Indeed photography is a way of expressing myself, as also drawing is to me. Lately I am also using textures in my photo’s,and I love to work with that. Art has always been a part of my life, and I really need it to function well.

10. Do you pay much attention to post processing your images? If so, assuming you are using Photoshop what’s your benefit with it ?
I always post process my photo’s. I use photoshop CS5 at the moment, and mostly I use levels, sharpening ,maybe a little more contrast etc. (not that much) I have a lot of benefit from photoshop.
